Saturday, the 1st of May 2010. The day arrived when we left Austria and took a flight to a small island in the Mediterranean Sea, called Malta. It took us about two hours to get there. At the airport of Malta we took a bus which brought us to our host families. I was at the same family as my brother Jürgen. Their name was Patrick and Mina McBride. They had two kids, Salma and Brian. Our first afternoon was free and we spent it walking around in the town.
The next day we went by bus to the capital city of Malta, Valetta. The city was planned and built by a French grandmaster, Jean De La Valette. In Valetta we watched the movie “Malta Experience”. It was a summary of all important historical events that happened on Malta.
On Monday we had our first day at school. The name of our teacher was Peter Mann. He was a very cool teacher and we talked a lot during the lessons. The afternoon was free again so we spent the time at the beach at St. George’s Bay. On Tuesday after school, we went to a place called Beach Club. It wasn’t very nice there, so our class decided to take the bus to St. George’s Bay again. On Wednesday afternoon we visited the town Mdina, which had been the capital city of Malta before Valetta was built. On Thursday we had our last day at school. We took some photographs with Peter and left the school. After lunch we went to the blue lagoon on the small island called Comino. But we didn’t go there in a normal boat, it was a speedboat. At every wave we jumped up a few meters. It was very funny when the water showered everyone on the boat.
On the last day we travelled to Gozo, a small island next to Malta. We went there by a very big ferry. We went around Gozo in a bus and our guide told us some interesting facts about Gozo and its cities. We also visited the Azure Window. It is a huge rock with a hole in it, and it is possible to look through it. It was very fascinating because all of it was pure nature. Back from Gozo we rested for some hours, and then we enjoyed the nightlife of Malta for the last time. It was a very fascinating, funny and cool week, I’ll never forget it.
